Mi Dia From Scratch-Chef Gabriel DeLeon

Plano-Grapevine-Flower Mound

As spring and summer weather arrives in DFW, Mi Dia From Scratch, a concept by celebrated Chef Gabriel DeLeon that blends traditional Mexico City recipes with modern Tex-Mex and Santa Fe flavors, is a go-to patio destination in one of Plano’s latest developments, West Plano Village, on the east side of the Dallas North Tollway and Parker Road. The 6,000-square-foot contemporary restaurant features a modern southwestern bar with an impressive “Tequila Tower,” consisting of more than 120 tequilas, and a spacious covered patio with comfortable lounge furniture, several mounted TVs, multiple heaters, three giant fans and the relaxing sounds of the triMi-Dia-from-Scratch-Mexican-Restaurant-Plano-Magazine-9bckling fountains nearby.

The concept, spearheaded by Chef-Managing Partner DeLeon, is the second Mi Dia From Scratch location in the DFW Metroplex, following the Grapevine location which opened in October, 2011. DeLeon takes much of his inspiration from his passion for travel throughout the world to bring authenticity to his dishes. Mi Dia From Scratch is named for DeLeon’s use of authentic ingredients in creating unique dishes by hand inspired by his training with renowned Mexican Chef Patricia Quintana in Mexico City.

“Our food is vibrant, soulful and complex.” said DeLeon. “Our menu is aimed at serving Mexican, Tex Mex and Santa Fe in a way that has not been successful before.”

Café Azur- Chef Sidney Degaine

cafe-azur-logoAs Houstonians return from summer holiday and start their fall routine, Café Azur will be a pleasant reminder of seaside vacations. Located near an already outstanding cast of restaurants near Montrose and Richmond, the restaurant captures the feeling of resort life with its bright colors, comfortable setting and luxurious cuisine.

French Chef/Owner Sidney Degaine, who was mostly trained in Nice, France, brings 20 years experience and his wife/operating partner, Maria, to Café Azur. This is the fourth restaurant for the Degaines, but their first in the U.S. They decided on Houston as it’s not only a dining city, but also a welcoming, cultured city.
Aside from tasting the coastal regions, you’ll feel as if you’re sitting ocean side while dining in are vamped space-formerly Max and Julie’s. The Degaines want the restaurant to remind diners of a fabulous summer holiday with luxurious cuisine to match. The interior of the restaurant is crisp and clean with hues of the sea giving diners an immediate feeling of relaxation. You’ll notice the element of art, which is copied from a street artist in Nice whom the Degaines have admired for years. Experience an evening on the one of two downstairs and upstairs patios with subtle LED lighting and lush greenery.

LASCO Enterprises was created in 2003 when CEO Jerry Lasco opened The Tasting Room at Uptown Park, Houston’s first wine bar to also sell retail wine. After garnering a loyal following in the Galleria neighborhood, Jerry developed a second concept called MAX’s Wine Dive – a unique wine-focused concept combining chef-driven comfort food with wines from around the world. The first Wine Dive opened in 2006 and quickly became one of the most highly-acclaimed establishments in Houston. Jerry then opened a MAX’s Wine Dive in Austin in 2009, San Antonio in 2010, Dallas in 2012, Fort Worth in 2013, Atlanta as well as a second location in Houston in 2014, and most recently a Denver outpost in early 2015. In 2013, Nation’s Restaurant News recognized MAX’s Wine Dive as one of the 50 “Breakout Brands” as well as one of the 5 “Hot Concepts” in the United States. In 2015 Jerry opened his first Flow Juice Bar outside of Texas (Denver) and is slated to open a second Houston location in Uptown Park.

While each of the successful concepts have garnered numerous local and national awards and accolades over the years, Lasco Enterprises as a whole has been recognized as one of Houston’s top businesses. The Houston Business Journal recognized Lasco Enterprises as the 13th fastest growing private company in Houston in 2009 and awarded the company the prestigious “Enterprise Champion” award in both 2009 and 2012, given to five fast-growing companies. These Enterprise Champions are set apart from the “Fast 100” not only in growth and industry leadership, but in contributions to employees, the community and to their respective industries. Lasco Enterprises also made the “Fast 100” list in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and has been recognized numerous times as “One of the Best Places to Work” in Texas.
